Frequently Asked Questions
Over the years, people have asked us many questions. We hope to answer a few on this page. Please feel free to contact us, should anything else be troubling you today.
Q: What is chai? A: Chai is a centuries old Asian beverage that is typically served hot. It consists of a harmonious blend of milk, fine teas, and exotic spices. Traditionally, the making of Chai was a complicated task, requiring lots of time and many different ingredients. Because of the complex nature of the cooking preparations, Chai brewing became an art form that was rich in tradition and ceremony.
Q: Why haven't we heard of it before? A: Traditionally, Chai was complicated and time consuming to prepare and that just did not fit in with mainstream culture. Now chai is available in convenient tea bag and instant powder form, which makes it easy to enjoy all the benefits of traditional chai in just a few minutes.
Q: Does the My T Chai elephant logo mean anything? A: The My T Chai logo was inspired by a number of things – an affinity to elephants – a great symbol of both India and Africa. We combine both Indian and African traditions in our teas. Elephants are quiet, dignified, hardworking beings – a symbol of strength. Also Ganesha – the Hindu elephant god – the Lord of Success and Remover of Obstacles, also worshipped as the god of knowledge, wisdom and wealth. The My T Chai symbol sits in a meditative pose, holding a cup of steaming chai in the one hand and with the other hand signals “very good”. Which it is.
Q: Who is the Mighty chai wallah, really? A: Hmmm.
Q: Why is love last on the list of ingredients? A: Because a little goes a very long way.
Q: What is Yogi Chai? A: Yogi Chai is the name we chose for one of our caffeine free chai variants. We were inspired to create a wholesome drink drawing on the ayurvedic health traditions. Traditionally the spices were prescribed for various health conditions and added to food or drink, or simply boiled in milk or water. We have devised our own recipe and added chicory for health and flavour. We think it tastes wonderful.
Q: Are My T Chai teas Kosher? A: Yes, all My T Chai teas are certified Kosher by Cape Beth Din, South Africa.
Q: What is Ayurveda all about? A: Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of holistic health care, suggests that a balance of spices and nutritious food can do much to improve overall health. In Sanskrit, ayur means “life” and veda means “knowledge”, so Ayurveda is “the knowledge of how to live”. Ayurveda includes all aspects of daily life like: maintenance of health, prevention of disease harmonization of body and mind, natural treatments and holistic complimentary healing techniques. Ayurveda combines yoga, meditation, food, natural preparations, cleansing and regenerative treatments. The overall effect is physical strength, better health, mental clarity, inner peace and calmness. Life, according to Ayurveda, is a combination of senses, mind, body and soul. It is clear from this definition of life that Ayurveda is not only limited to body or physical symptoms but also gives a comprehensive knowledge about spiritual, mental and social health.
Q: Where can I find it? A: My T Chai is available through Health Stores, Deli's, Coffee Shops and retail stores. See our "Where to find it" section.
Q: Is there any truth to the rumour that some of the spices in My T Chai have aphrodisiac qualities? A: Absolutely. Here in South Africa, we call them "Afro-teasiacs". The only thing is, that in order to feel the effect, you would need to drink about a hundred cups of My T Chai a day. (Which would be great for our sales.) So by all means, give it a try and let us know the results... (go on do it!)
